Co-founded by Dean on February 1st 2016, launched on 22 May 2016, and celebrated on May 22 each year, this special international day welcomes, recognises and celebrates the amazing lifestyles, work and contribution of all urban and city farmers to food growing and earth care worldwide.
For some, urban farming is a choice and part of a healthy lifestyle. For many, there is no choice – it is simply survival. For all, it represents the future!
In 2023, the UN celebrates a number of sustainable development themes, including the International Year of Millets.
Our World Urban Farmers Day focus on May 22 this year will focus on all of these themes in some way, especially millet. We also celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.
Please join us to spread the awareness and love of urban and city farming all over the world. We hope you celebrate WUFD in your own special way, with your own family and friends, community and culture.
We will be sharing lots of ways you can join and celebrate on and around this special day (and ongoing every day, all year).
