26-35 Feeding Frenzy
Solution 26 – Redirect the billions of dollars of tax-payers’ money that currently supports unsustainable farming toward genuinely sustainable food production.
Solution 27 – Ban the use of harmful pesticides in agriculture.
Solution 28 – Ban the use of artificial nitrogen-based fertilisers.
Solution 29 – Promote organic farming.
Solution 30 – Reduce the distance that food travels.
Solution 31 – Put in place a new, legally-binding code of conduct to regulate the power of supermarkets, so that their influence over farmers and our food is directed more towards the public interest.
Solution 32 – Cut meat consumption by half. This would reduce pressure on natural habitats, reduce pollution and help combat climate change.
Solution 33 – Tighten up the regulations on animal welfare, with the aim that eventually most meat sold will be free range and organic.
Solution 34 – Establish a moratorium on the commercialization of GM crops.
Solution 35 – Withdraw agriculture from the World Trade Organisation and negotiate an international treaty for food security and sustainable agriculture under the auspices of the UN.
