Research indicates that littering is behavioural and different people litter in different ways. Here’s a closer look into the minds of litterbugs:

• Wedgers stuff their litter into cracks and holes.
• Inchers drop their litter and move away inch by inch.
• Foul Shooters make a shot for the bin, but if they miss they ignore it.
• Flagrant Flingers throw litter away without any care.
• Clean Sweepers wipe other people’s litter off tables and chairs onto the ground.
• Grinders push cigarette butts and litter into the ground.
• Undertakers bury their litter in the dirt or other places.
• Besiders leave their litter next to a full bin instead of looking for another bin.

Our once proud Aussie saying, “She’ll be right mate” has become an excuse for a lot of lazy, disrespectful public behaviour, such as littering – thinking somehow someone else will take care of it. Do the right thing – put it in the bin!
