Easy Green Changes You Can Make

Every change you make to be greener, however small, makes a difference to your planet and your health. Try these for starters:

  • Install a 3-star-rated water-efficient showerhead. This saves more than a tonne of greenhouse gas each year, as well as up to $200 per year off your power and water bills.
  • Install energy-efficient compact fluorescent globes. This saves up to 80%  of your lighting bill.
  • Switch off lights and appliances when they’re not needed or in use. Turn them off at the power switch. It can save up to 10% of your electricity bill and up to a tonne of carbon.
  • Whenever you can, walk, ride your bike or use public transport, and use your phone, email or options like Skype whenever you can.
  • If you have aircon or a heating system, set the thermostat appropriately. Insulation and curtains are a great way to maintain house temperatures.
  • Dry your washing on a clothes line if possible. Each load of washing dried in the sun saves around 3 kg of greenhouse gas and up to 50 cents.
  • Go green on your electricity. Switch to a GreenPower product, which means your electricity is sourced from renewable energy such as wind and solar. It is slightly more expensive, but if you follow smart energy saving tips, you’ll be using and buying much less electricity anyway.
