Lucky Dips

If you know how to make delicious and nutritious dips, and you’re into nibblies and finger foods, you are indeed lucky!
Dips are a great easy and healthy food and ideal for both meals and snacks, and great for getting kids to eat healthy food. And there are so many wonderful varieties and recipes for yummy dips. Have a go at making your own … and avoid some of those less than healthy and often salt, sugar and chemical-filled supermarket dips. Dips are so easy to make!
Dips can be made from almost anything, and require very little preparation for most of the more simple and well-known ones, such as guacamole, pesto and and tsatsiki. Some dips require a little cooking and prep, like eggplant dip and sweet pumpkin/potato dip, but are well worth the wait. And almost any taste can be added to almost any dip, such as spices and herbs, sauces and even curries.
Here’s a couple of easy ones to try:
Holy Guacamole!
Mash 4 whole (skin & seed removed) avodacos in a bowl
Add a pinch of salt and pepper
Add a good teaspoon of lemon juice (this will stop it from going brown)
Add 1 good teaspoon of minced garlic
And if you like it spicy, add a few drops of Tabasco sauce
Mix everything together really well and hey presto! it’s ready to serve with crackers, pita bread or carrot sticks.
Simple Tsatsiki
1 cup of fresh natural Greek yoghurt
1 large cucumber (peeled and diced)
1 pinch of salt and pepper
A good pinch of chopped oregano
Add a pinch of cinnamon for zing
And a tiny splash of lemon juice for extra zing!
Mix well and it’s ready for the party!
